Thin Wall Packaging is a type of packaging, which utilizes thin and lightweight plastic. The use of lightweight plastics makes the production process cost efficient and time saving. Typically, thin wall is considered as plastics parts or plastic packaging with a wall thickness less than 0.8 mm (0.031 in.).

Moreover, the increased use of packaging tapes and gels and the use of customized solutions in various industries has also led to the increasing use of this packaging in the food industry. 14th edition of Thin Wall Packaging (conference) took place in December 2019 in Germany. The conference focus was on plastics packaging tubs, cups, trays, jars, and pots. Whereas, in 2017, manufacturers showcased the first-ever use of ultra-thin TRIM (Thin Recess Injection Molding) technology for single-serve applications at Expo Plasticos in Mexico. Moreover, the Japanese government developed a strategy for plastics and laid out ambitious targets including the reduction of 25% for single-use plastic waste and the reuse/recycling of 60% for plastic containers and packaging by 2030. Government initiatives to improve food safety have spurred the Thin Wall Packaging. In China, for example, the revised food safety law stipulates a number of new requirements for packaging materials. The goal of the new law is to safeguard the health of the public and secure food safety. The law also specifies the parties that must abide by rules and regulations regarding the production and distribution of food and packaging materials, as well as detergents and tools used in food production. Heat resistance, high stiffness, steam barrier properties, elasticity (film and fiber applications), strong impact & rigidity balance, and enhanced transparency are some various benefits offered by polypropylene thin walled products.
